Streetwise

Bristol City Centre BID has taken proactive measures to prioritise safety within the area by funding its dedicated Streetwise Support Officer since September 2018, in partnership with Redcliffe & Temple BID and Broadmead BID. In February 2022, Lewis Monk took up this role joining the existing team of the Street Intervention Service (SIS) that is run by Bristol City Council, supported by two officers from Avon and Somerset Police and features valuable contributions from seconded personnel from Bristol Drugs Project and St Mungo’s.

The overarching objective of the SIS team revolves around addressing instances of anti-social behaviour (ASB) stemming from the street community, encompassing persistent begging, public drug use and intimidating conduct.

As your primary contact for street-based welfare concerns, Lewis will personally visit you, if required, to discuss the issues at hand and explore potential solutions. He will provide support in identifying individuals involved, collaborate with other agencies such as St Mungo’s outreach team and the police, and take necessary enforcement action when appropriate.

Using his expertise and experience, Lewis will effectively communicate problem areas with the local beat team ensuring that businesses with the most urgent concerns receive the highest priority.

Moreover, Lewis is equipped to assist with the enforcement of Civil Injunctions, Criminal Behaviours Orders, Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices, enhancing the overall safety and well-being of the Bristol City Centre BID area.
